Kashmir Cuveé Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
Winegrowing Information
Our first release of Kamen Kashmir Cabernet Sauvignon comes after many years of working with the fruit from the very rocky
soils of Kamen Vineyards and observing that in some years, there are certain blocks that exhibit a uniquely different character
from the rest of the vineyard. In some vintages, the wines made from blends of these individual lots produce a very special
wine where, the whole exceeds the quality of the individual parts. The 2005 growing season was much wetter than most years,
and it also was much longer and provided a platform for slow, even ripening and ideal maturity development. These beneficial
factors enabled the grapes to have extended hang time and to reach rare heights of complexity with rich, dark color and deeply,
expressive fruit flavors. Since we kept each lot separate throughout the winemaking process, we were able to follow the unique
characteristics of terroir found in each block. We realized we had a very special and distinctive wine that stood well on
its own. We were fortunate to be able to make the 2005 Kamen Kashmir, Cabernet Sauvignon of which only 100 cases were made.
Winemaker Tasting Notes
In color, this wine is dense, dark purple, almost black. The rich , aromatic elements are enticing and powerful-primarily
of ripe blackberries and violets with the secondary notes of wet rock, roughened suede, pencil lead, tea and cinnamon that
leap from the glass. Extremely lush in the mouth, the palate is an explosion of freshly crushed blueberries and flowers and
a mineral creaminess that are showcased by velvety, but very present tannins. With an excellent structural foundation, great
purity and captivating opulence, the wine has a finish that is sweet, expanding and extremely lengthy-two minutes plus. This
is a big, luscious, intense and age worthy wine that should drink effortlessly over the next two decades.
