Syrah 2007
Winegrowing Information
The growing season of 2007 started off with below average rainfall and ended with below average temperatures. The moderate
conditions and absence of heat spikes enabled our vines to produce intense flavors from extended hang times. Our Syrah comes
from 3 one-acre blocks each differing in elevation and exposures. The highest, at 1400’, with a south-eastern exposure, was
harvest first on 9/28/07. The middle elevation block at 1200’, with its due south exposure, was harvested two weeks later.
Ten days following, we completed the harvest with the lowest block of syrah at 1000’, which has a north-western exposure.
Three blocks. Three clones. Three distinct flavor profiles blended together to showcase this unique example of Kamen Estate
terroir. With such small, distinctive vineyard blocks, our Syrah yields never exceed 1.5 tons per acre, resulting in a limited
production of 100 cases.
Winemaker Tasting Notes
The 2007 Kamen Syrah showcases deep aromas of roasted blackberries, fresh-cut flowers, minerals, white pepper, and suede,
with notes of tea, orange-peel, mocha and cream. In the mouth, you will find a seamless entry of sweet black fruits. The acid
balance supports the massive mid-palate of roasted black and stone fruits, which leads to a long finish of roasted meats and
nuts with echoes of tobacco and mocha. Enjoy this 2007 Syrah over the next 5 to 20 years.
